SEND

Every child learns differently. Every child deserves to feel understood, confident and capable.

We provide specialist support for children with Special Educational Needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning differences. Sessions are carefully tailored to each child’s individual needs, helping them build confidence, feel understood and make meaningful progress.

What Our Parents Say

The tutors at Small Steps Big Minds are patient, understanding, and skilled in working with children who have ADHD. They used creative and engaging methods to maintain my son’s focus and made learning enjoyable. The personalised strategies they implemented have greatly improved my child’s attention span and academic performance.

Who We Support

We work with children who may be experiencing:

  • Autism (ASC)
  • ADHD / attention difficulties
  • Dyslexia or literacy challenges
  • Speech, language and communication needs
  • Anxiety or school avoidance
  • Low confidence or self-esteem
  • Children working below age-related expectations

If your child struggles to engage with learning in a mainstream setting or needs a more personalised approach, our sessions are designed to help them thrive.

Our Approach

Learning is most effective when children feel safe, supported, and motivated. We create a calm, structured and nurturing environment, adapting each session to the way your child learns best. Our approach includes: • Tailored, multi-sensory teaching strategies • Structured and predictable sessions • Chunking tasks into small, achievable steps • Movement or sensory breaks where needed • Positive reinforcement and celebrating progress • Building independence and confidence alongside academic skills Each child’s learning journey is unique. Our goal is to help your child make progress at their own pace while developing a love for learning.

What a Typical Session Looks Like

A session may include:

  1. Settling in / check-in – allowing your child to feel comfortable and focused
  2. Short, engaging learning activities – tailored to your child’s needs
  3. Movement or sensory breaks – supporting focus and wellbeing
  4. Review and celebration – recognising progress and setting achievable goals

Parents are kept fully involved, with regular feedback and advice on strategies to continue learning at home. Where appropriate, we collaborate with schools or other professionals to ensure a consistent, supportive approach.

Inclusion Statement

We are committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment where every child feels valued, respected, and able to achieve their full potential. We tailor our teaching to meet each child’s individual needs, ensuring that children with SEND can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Reasonable adjustments are always made to ensure all children can access sessions fully.

Supporting Progress

Every child’s progress looks different. For some, it may be improved academic skills; for others, it may be increased confidence, focus, or willingness to engage with learning. We celebrate every step forward and adjust sessions to continue building on strengths while addressing challenges.
